Nvidia gives great head

Shadowy lighting

THERE'S A great video up that shows what the 8800 Ultra is really capable of when it comes to cinematic rendering.

We hate that phrase even more than most, having seen many graphics cards lay claim to the Peter Jackson crown. Unfortunately, for them and for us, cinematic rendering is still a long way off, especially as CGI continues to improve in quality.

But this little video is probably the closest we've seen to something that could even contemplate starting to think about experimenting with the name of cinematic rendering. It's a dude - a chap called Doug Jones, who's an actor - rendered, pretty accurately, then lit in all kinds of different ways.

At one point, his face is painfully stretched flat for illustration. Poor chap. All kinds of shadowing and lighting techniques are used, as an Indian Nvidian is keen to tell us. Take a look at the vid and we're sure that your thoughts will land in our letter bag. µ
