Asus P4S8X mobo gets user thumbs down

It's life Jim, but not as we know it

MANY USERS OF THE Asus P4S8X motherboard, which supports AGP 8X and has Serial ATA connectors, are reporting problems to both the INQUIRER and posting complaints at the Asusboards forum.

One reader told us: "I have just bought an Asus P4S8X mainboard, and a bagful of problems. This board reboots at will and is generally very unstable."

There's even polls at the Asusboard forum asking how many others have the problem.

The results of the poll, here, show that of the people that answered, 52 blamed memory, 40 blamed Vcore, and 27 people said they had other problems. Of the 132 people who voted, at press time 13 said the board ran perfectly.

Not everyone appears to have the problem, which is discussed at this thread.

Some users and consumers are reporting that the problem appears to be with different sizes of memory but others say that's not the case, a discussion that continues here.

Asus has said little so far. We have emailed our contact at the firm and will update the story when we have his reply. µ

* IF YOU TREK over to the Asus Web site, you'll notice that it will introduce an "all new" Intel-based mobo on October 7th which uses the new Chipzilla chipsets that support Serial ATA, DDR 333, Broadcom Gagabit (sic) LAN, Firewire, and SuoundMax, as well as POST Reporter -- which plenty of people would like to do to us -- and other Asus BIOS treats including CrashFree BIOS.

Do you think the move was justified?
