ATI attacks 6200TC with lower priced X300SE HM

Marchitecture wars

NVIDIA HAS SHIPPED Geforce 6200 Turbo cache cards for a few weeks now and ATI wants to attack Nvidia's momentum. We still can not figure out why ATI decided not to ship X300SE HM cards to reviewers while Nvidia made a big noise about its 6200TC el cheapo cards.

ATI's card with 32MB of real memory X300SE HM is expected to be priced at $59 and it will compete Nvidia Geforce 6200TC powered with 16 MB or memory priced at $67. Both cards will act like they are 128MB or even 256MB cards as Turbo Cache or Hyper Memory Marchitecture lets you address your system memory.

Still, in Nvidia's case, you need 512MB in order to make the board work fine, while ATI claims it needs 256MB of system memory only. ATI also claims its card will be faster than Nvidia but we still haven't seen evidence for this yet.

ATI partners had this card ready at CeBIT, but no one decided to make any noise about it. I have to note that this is rather unusual as you kind of have to prove, by way of reviews, that your product is actually better than the competition's. ยต
