Two addditional high ranking HPers go

One door closes, another door closes

THE BLOODBATH at HP continues. We told you about HP misplacing Steve Smith without a named successor, and now comes word of two others, Rich Marcello and Don Jenkins.

To show the love, word of Marcello's future plans are said to involve "volunteer work". Come on, couldn't they have at least used the "spend more time with the family line"?

With his #2 Don Jenkins being shown the door without so much as volunteer work waiting for him, this really smacks of a coup.

Marcello's replacement, Martin Fink, looks to have an easy time ahead of him, how can you do worse than HPs botched Itanic transistions? It is eerily similar to the situation Hurd was gifted with before he 'Dunn wrong', nowhere to go but up.

In any case, we are told one of the main reasons for these departures is that most Tru64 people are not moving to HP-UX/Itanic, and not doing so in droves. The constant pain the the community felt probably did not help matters either. Looks like the rearranging of the deck chairs in in full force.

So, the real question is where does this floundering arm go now? It has an annoyed customer base, a hostile community, and a gutted support infrastructure. Its chips are delayed another year or so and there is nothing even resembling good news around. Welcome to the new HP. µ
