FORTY FIVE newsroom jobs will go at USA Today because of “economic realities” in the newspaper industry.
USA Today circulation has grown and its online site, USATODAY.com was named top news website in the country by the Online News Association. But " revenue has not kept pace," said editor Ken Paulson.
The cuts will first be sought through voluntary redundancy of employees with more than 15 years of experience at Gannett, the parent company of USA Today, and less than five years of online experience. µ

When the "Daily Show" is considered to be the best source of "News" in the United States today.

Why would anyone think a information (News) source like USA today would keep people they never use. The government decides what the population needs to know.

News is and should be information, not opinion and opinion is what they get. Home of the Free and the Brave? Brave yes, Free no !!!
News in the US? Daily Show the best 'news' show? Probably, it seems least likely of the domestic 'news' outlets to dodge issues and ignore truths.

I find that the best 'news' in the US comes from the good old BBC on BBC America with their evening news broadcasts. they cover International news (yes folks, things happen outside the US - every day), as well as domestic news without the usual distracting spin. You know, it's refreshing to hear the names of countries, cities and leaders pronounced correctly.

Maybe one day the Americans will even learn how to pronounce Jaguar....
You get that for which you pay.
Serious journalists at USA Today make just about as much sense as sommeliers at McDonalds.
Anyone who's seen the "reporting" USA today does knows that it's hardly a blow to the news industry.

They're known for great pie charts and good color printing. People who read USAToday aren't really reading...they like the pretty pictures.

If this were the WSJ, NY Times, LA Times...it would be a much sadder day.
