Hardware roundup

THE VOLE finally seems to be getting its act together and producing operating systems that are worth waiting for. Or maybe we've just become inured. OC Workbench gives you a quick review of the Enterprise Edition of the latest version of Windows.

Now that all the big hoopla is over, and our very own Mike Magee is crossing the Atlantic as this is typed, the dust from the Opteron launch is starting to settle. Here are a few of the more interesting recounting of tales from New York and other Opteron bits...

There're a truckload of photos and some gushing about the quick peek at a few frames of the third instalment of Star Wars over at AMDZone. Apparently, R2D2 was rendered in real time on an Opteron system at the show.

There are a scattering of extra details on the Nforce 3 over at AMDBoard. They take a run around the specs of Einux's NeoStation64.

Bruce over at Tom's Hardware might have had a good time at the Opteron launch. It's difficult to tell really. He does a "just the facts, ma'am" style.

Anandtech has not just one report on the launch but a second one to go with it. Anand has some definitely real-world benchmarks up in the second one.

Time to get back to some ordinary wibbling round the wobbly web. Here're a couple of more normal reviews for you...

Asus has made a good attempt with its V9560, a Geforce FX5600. But Abbas doesn't think it's good enough. Pop on over to Tbreak to find out why.

Lastly, Visionary over at VR-Zone is going for a Canterwood motherboard review a day at the moment. You can read today's Chaintech and yesterday's AOpen reviews then compare the two. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
