While Samsung wants to get the factories, in Seoul, Korea, back to capacity over the weekend, the fabs in question provide a third of the chips the firm makes.
The Journal said Samsung estimated the shut down will cost a staggering $55 million. And if it can't get the fabs going again quickly, then it's going to be quite a bit more than that.
Paradoxically, the shutdown may achieve what Samsung and the other DRAM makers haven't been able to do by themselves all year, cause the price of memory to rise. µ
