Sober-I staggers into top 10 virus list

Zooming up the charts
Wednesday, 1 December 2004, 10:13
SOPHOS RELEASED its "top ten" virus/trojan report for November, and said Sober-I and Bagle-AU made entries into the chart.

The list also shows that the pesky Netsky-P and the dastardly Zafi-B, continue to be major irritants to Windows users around the world.

Carole Theriault, security consultant at Sophos, said that Sober-I's impact was particularly significant, reaching number two in the month's list even though it didn't tip until the 19th of November.

Sophos also publishes an email "hoax" list. This time round, one titled "Yahoo instant message" entered the charts. It warns of viruses attacking IM users. But it's a spoof.

Number one, for five consecutive months is the Hotmail Hoax.

Here's the Sophos chart. µ
