Yahoo snubs Microsoft again
VOLE'S LATEST attempt to buy Yahoo's online search operations in a "take it or leave it" bid has been snubbed with the biggest snub that can be found in captivity.
Part of the reason for Yahoo saying 'no' was that Vole had designed its latest offer with activist investor Carl Icahn, the bloke who wants to overthrow Yahoo's board of directors in a shareholder coup next month.
Yahoo said Vole had dusted off an earlier bid to buy the company's search engine, but it also suggested turning over the remaining pieces to a board controlled by Icahn. This is going to be the most popular proposal that the board has had to think of.
Bad blood boiling, Yahoo's beleaguered board lashed out saying that the idea was ludicrous.
Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock said in the statement that this type of erratic and unpredictable behaviour was consistent with what he had come to expect from Microsoft.
Yahoo claimed that Microsoft had thrown its toys out of the pram and refused to hold any further talks with Yahoo's current board and management.
But it seems that this latest rejection was not meant to be taken seriously. It has more to do with the fact that it makes the Yahoo board look even more Mozambesque as Icahn's attempted coup gets a bit of momentum. µ

What does these desperate microsoft moves tell us of the comapny's gloomy online future? Since when is yahoo an open source company?
Perhaps it is time for the company with the world's biggest ego - controlled by the man with the world's biggest ego - to find out that the world does not revolve around Microsoft. Jerry Yang can be Microsoft's badly-needed Copernicus.

Open source-based companies like Yahoo do not need Microsoft or their underhanded, unscrupulous, and outmoded ways of doing business.
