Dell says Vista needs double bubble memory boost

THE CEO of Dell reckons Microsoft Vista needs 2GB of memory but that isn't going to stop it selling like hot cakes.

Kevin Rollins, quoted on the Seattle Post Intelligencer, said that while Microsoft reckons 1GB of memory is OK, 2GB is better.

The memory companies and the graphics card vendors must be sitting in their offices using their imagination to visualise the racks of coins they believe Microsoft's Vista will bring them.

Yesterday, the San Jose Mercury News reported Microsoft's Steve Ballmer as saying the biggest competitor to Vista is Windows XP.

The point is that not so long after the operating system struggles from its 20,000 development leagues under the sea to surface into the light of day, it is going to be peskily hard to buy a PC that doesn't have Vista OS as part of its make-up.

The Seattle Post Intelligencer article is here. µ
