Ritek ups its SSD ante

CES 2008 Inexpensive and fast
Sunday, 6 January 2008, 13:22

RITEK IS ANNOUNCING a series of SSD drives that up the ante from the 32G they have now to 128.

There is nothing hugely standout here, just more drives from a player known for lower prices.

The ones available now are a 1.8-9-inch 16G, and 2.5-inchers in 32 and 64G, with a 2.5-inch 128G to follow later in Q1.

The transfer rates, in R/W MBps, are 39/32, 60/50, 100/70 and ~170 read respectively. Ritek is claiming that the drives are fast enough to play Crysis from, and were in fact demoing it at the show. The game worked, so presumably the claim was correct.

We might ordinarily quote prices here but, with the flash market changing by the day, and the cost of the drives being wholly dependent on that, it will be outdated before you read this. µ

You don't want to quote prices because of the outlandish prices for this product.
Sure I would like to have 128g for about few thousand.

Price

From http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/riteks-16gb-and-32gb-ssds-starting-at-a-low-low-169/ :

Update: Bad news: DigiTimes now states that the Ritek 1.8-inch, 16GB and 32GB SSD cards will cost $270 (not $169 as originally reported) and $475, respectively. Still, not bad.

Can't find an estimate for the 64GB ones; you'd extrapolate to the $950 area. 128GB would be quite an investment.
