A CHINESE LANGUAGE report quotes AMD regional manager Mr Chou as claiming that his company sold 500,000 Athlon 64s by the end of 2003.

The report said that in September 2003 it estimated that number of Athlon 64s would ship. When we were at Computex in September, we saw AMD numbers estimating a number very close to Chou's claims.

But, at the time, Taiwanese partners were bitter about the actual number of samples and parts that were made available for the show.

The numbers that Chou is talking about are, in fact, close to the matrix we published at the time of Computex.

The Chinese language article claims that for the first half of 2004, AMD expects to sell several million units.

Last week Smith Barney analysts suggested to their customers that the Athlon 64 was slipping. ยต
