Amazon to try its hand at content delivery

Deliver the little files unto me

DISCOVERING YET MORE fingers to stick in more pies, Amazon says it will offer a new service to help firms large and small ship MP3s and software worldwide.

Dubbed the Amazon 'content delivery service, the new venture will join the online retailer’s storage, software and database services, which already allows users to bung their data and code onto Amazon’s servers instead of having to manage computing systems themselves.

The content delivery service will take user files and spread them out in data centres spanning the US, Europe and Asia, allowing people to download them quicker. Amazon reckons this betters performance, and the system is already undergoing private trials.

If the trials are successful, the service should be up and running by the end of the year, but as yet there is no word on how much it will cost. µ
