Notebook without hard drive mooted

Much more secure sorta
Wed Feb 16 2005, 08:16
JAPANESE MAKER of hardware bits and bobs, Hitachi, is planning to launch a range of notebook computers with no hard disk drive.

The idea is that a thin client notebook will be a much more effective way of protecting data from potential leaks.

All tasks will be carried out by a wireless connection to head office, where it is presumed that security will be tighter.

The only problem is that it assumes that a wireless connection is more secure than owning a secured hard-drive, which all up it probably isn't.

Despite the actual lack of on-board functionality, the new notebook will cost about $2,476. It will hit the shops in April.

According to Hitachi spinners, one of the first big orders it has for the product is er Hitachi, which is buying 2,000 of the things.

There is a little more here. µ
