LEATHER IS A sales hit across the markets where Asus is selling its own notebooks, it claims.

Company reps said they didn't expect that they would end up needing as much leather as the automotive industry, since customers have gone nuts about buying these things.

Now Asus is pushing LED backlights as well as notebooks with lederhosen.

Leather meets LED Backlight on a 11.1" screen

The main advantages of LED Backlight are half of the width of regular lamp-ones, and 30 per cent lighter. The LED Backlight will allow unified picture quality across the panel and dark spots should not be noticeable, while lowering the power consumption.

Rest of the specs feature Core 2 Duo processor U2400, DDR2-667 up to two gigs, 11.1-inch WXGA (HD supporting 1280x800 pixels), 40-80GB hard disk, and an external Blu-ray/DVD All-Format combo drive. Sadly, no SSD drive option is on the table, but we think it would be a good idea if notebook manufacturers would start offering SSDs (Solid State Drives) as an option. µ
