MySQL remains Open Sauce

Puts off closed source plans
Wed May 07 2008, 09:38

MYSQL has decided to abandon its plans to take some of its database software out of the open source community's paws.

According to VP Kaj Arno's bog here MySQL is forgoing close sourcing portions of the MySQL Server.

There were dark rumours that the company was preparing to close source the server's backup, encryption, and storage engines.

Kaj said that everything will remain fully functional and open source, as will the MySQL Connectors.

This does not mean that it will be always so. But there have been slightly stronger messages emerging from Sun over its commitment to Open Sauce. µ
