AMD shows off Barton 3200+ at CeBIT

Intel shows off Pentium 4 3.20GHz at CeBIT

IT'S JUST A TECHNOLOGY demonstration says AMD, but over on its stand it has a 3200+ Barton powering a desktop machine.

According to roadmaps seen by the INQUIRER, this speed step for the AMD processor family is set to be released around about the middle of the year.

We'd guess that the timing depends on when Intel releases its next desktop CPU - the 3.20GHz P4 using the Northwood process.

And yes, you guessed it, Intel is also showing a "technology demonstration" of a desktop powered by a 3.20GHz microprocessor of the P4 persuasion.

Meanwhile, a P4 is running on the Epox stand using this horrendous Prometeia cooling system to lift it a GHz more or so.

Sheesh!
