Oracle Linux customer gets hassled

Fan boys attack
Tuesday, 3 April 2007, 08:45
RED HAT FAN boys have been attacking an Aussie company which dared to make a transition from Red Hat to Oracle's support for Linux.

Melbourne company Opes Prime Stockbroking told ZD Net Australia upset Linux enthusiasts have been phoning, e-mailing and writing to the company to moan about at the decision.

Opes executive director Anthony Blumberg said that people were just calling out of the blue to tell the company it was an idiot.

He also had a call from Red Hat Australia and New Zealand managing director Max McLaren, which was odd because when the outfit was a customer, it was largely ignored by Red Hat.

Despite what the Red Hat fan boys have been saying about Opes, the stockbroker is happy with the support Oracle provided.

It has a three-year contract for Linux support, and is using Oracle Enterprise Linux, modelled on Red Hat 4.
