SONY'S HOME market of Japan is being taken over by its rival's Nintendo in the console war.

Sony only sold 466,716 PS3 units in Japan after its November 11 launch until the end of December. Sony had expected to sell a million consoles domestically.

Mainichi news reports that Nintendo sold 989,118 Wiis domestically from its December 2 launch date to month's end, nearly double Sony's total. The only good news for Sony was that Microsoft's Xbox 360 is getting an even bigger drubbing in Japan than the PS3.
