ATI uses keep your head down tactics

AMD-ATI versus G80 launch
Wednesday, 15 November 2006, 09:45
WE TRIED to find out what is ATI's next response to Nvidia Über successful G80 launch. Geforce 8800 GTX, GTS or the SLI made out of two is ripping ATI's performance heart out.

So what is ATI's rescue plan? Well it is nada, at least for the time being. The mothership company AMD is concentrating all its forces to a soon to come 4x4 launch. ATI's chaps explained to the mothership that until R600 comes out AMD can only keep its head down.

I am sure that AMD is rushing R600 as much as it can but even Theo's end of January 2007 launch date just sounds a bit too optimistic to me. I heard even later than that.

Yule is the Nvidia's high end time and the green graphic chaps should enjoy it as they deserved it.

The only thing that's saving ATI now is that DirectX 10 gaming is not out, and it won't be seriously out until some time next year. By that time AMD should be ready with R600 and if if performs better than G80 that's fine and dandy.

Nvidia won't sit on its bum and do nothing. That is simply not Jensen Huang's style. We expects a new G80 high end part by the spring 2007 as I believe that it would be really hard to put two G80s on the same card. Still I keep my mind open for a GX2 card based on G80 marchitecture. µ
