GERMAN mobile phone outfit T-Mobile is about to commit the ultimate heresy and flog the Apple Iphone without a locked in contract.
The move follows a court injunction slapped on the outfit by rival Vodafone which thinks that the lock-in might violate European consumer law.
T-Mobile said that it will get around the injunction by offering the iPhone for (US) $1,478 at its shops. Anyone who has bought an iPhone since November 19 to unlock the device free of charge so it can be used with other SIM cards.
Until now people wanting to buy Apple's fruit themed communications toy would have to sign up for a 24 month contract with T-Mobile.
T-Mobile said that it will continue to sell the Iphone as an open shop until the court allows it to revert to its old contract, if ever.
Quite what the Cappuccino toymaker Steve Jobs will think about his cunning plan to lock-in phones coming unhinged, has not been revealed.
T-Mobile's announcement will also mean that he will have a hell of a job releasing firmware updates that turn phones who are not with his preferred suppliers into bricks.
Poor Steve has been having a problem with consumer law across the pond. The Europeans don't like his lock ins, and he's beengetting demands that his products last longer than a year.
