AMD seems to have a winner on its hands with some reservations. The chip performs well in many benchmarks, being neck-and-neck with the Pentium 4 3.06GHz HT processor. But that's not the whole story. There are certainly applications and games where the Intel processor beats the new AMD into submission.
One thing that strikes us as odd is the difference in some of the benchmarks. On some sites the Barton will win, on others the P4 will win. It's certainly noticeable with 3D Mark. We wonder how much motherboard design comes into this as the rest of the kit is almost exactly the same.
Ace's Hardware in particular is less than convinced about the 3000+ moniker of the 2.17GHz part and wonders if that should have been reserved for the next processor speed up.

There's bound to be more. We might review the Barton 3000+ ourselves, but we don't sign non-disclosure agreements at the INQUIRER, and if our reviewers did, the Chinese walls might be hard to maintain... µ
