AMD Colonel Sanders' autumn pricing revealed

It's finger licking expensive

Colonel-sanders--754-legs-are-better-than-two-on-a-chicken WHILE FUDO the AMD Fan Boy points out that the Athlon FX chipolata will outskin a Pentium 4 3.2GHz microprocessor, we had better not forget one little thing and that is life is not just about performance but about price too.

As we revealed some months ago, Intel's next price "adjustment" spookily arrives in October, about the time the Athlon FX edges up to the starting gate in the latest adventure of Microprocessors: The Desperation Derby.

At that time, dear reader, the Pentium 4 3.20GHz, a hyperthreaded 800MHz front side bus chip will cost you $417, while Intel's 90 nano Mr Prescott will set you back $640 or so at launch.

Here's what we believe to be the prices of AMD's Colonel Sanders' chips, compared to Kentucky Colonel Sanders' fare this autumn.

12 piece bargain bucket £9.99
Athlon FX £620

Corn on the Cob £1.20
Athlon 64 3400 £530

Special Beans £1.99
Athlon 64 3200 £350
Big Gulp Koolar $2.50

If our mole's whisperings are as correct as we believe them to be, this means that it's going to be ever so much cheaper to get yourself a Pentium 4 3.20GHz microprocessor mit motherboard upgradeable to Mr Prescott than it is an Athlon FX mit mobo, we'd suggest.

In fact, if Intel pulls all of its irons out of the fire in Mr Prescott's case, a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 5 is gonna be a roughly comparable price to a Mr Sanders' Sunnyvale Special.

Intel and AMD are as akin to love and marriage as adultery is to divorce, but isn't it spooky how they march together, Chipzilla and Chimpzilla, almost as if they were in step with each other? µ
