There's a new trailer over here, which is a mixture of interview footage with the id team as well as funky new gameplay videos showing off the combat. It should whet your appetite for the release, which is out in the middle of June.
However, of more interest to us is the fact that the developers have been talking more about how much they (heart) Nvidia, and the game is, unsurprisingly, part of the TWIMTBP scheme that we all know and love. Said id CEO Todd Hollenshead,
"Nvidia has been our preferred development platform throughout the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars project. Since developers don't have the luxury of working with optimized code until games are nearly done, GPU performance and stability are critically important for efficient play balance, development, and testing. We demand the absolute maximum from our video cards and the GeForce 8 series delivers--it's currently the fastest card available for the game."
'Legend of id' John Carmack added, "For almost a decade now, Nvidia's products have been the benchmark of quality that we use internally at ID to develop our products. Top notch performance, combined with broad feature support and stable drivers make for an excellent platform for expanding the frontiers of gaming graphics."
Doesn't that sound just cosy?
As we mentioned, don't expect to see DX10 functionality in the game, but there are some neat new graphical features including what the id boys are calling 'megatexturing', which means texturing huge swathes of land with a single, massive texture, which takes advantage of the large memory configurations of most modern graphics cards. µ
