Bookshop sells new Harry Potter book by mistake

Interweb trawled for wizardly leaks
Tue Jul 12 2005, 13:59
A CANADIAN BOOKSHOP sold 15 copies of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last week, ahead of the highly-anticipated launch date this coming Saturday morning at about 00.01.

The cock-up had the book's Canadian publisher rushing off to court to get an injunction to prevent the fortunate fifteen from revealing contents of the book.

According to Canadian news outfit CBC, staff from publisher Raincoast Books were desperately trawling the wibblesome web fearing that leaks may have made their way online, spoiling the excitement for millions of muggles everywhere.

Canadians seem to make of habit of such cock-ups. The launch-gun of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was similarly jumped in 2003 when a Wal-Mart in Quebec prematurely let slip a few copies.

Raincoast Books is trying to get the 15 copies back, offering such inducements as an autographed bookplate signed by author from J.K. Rowling.

Any elctronic copies that may have been produced should be erased, the court order orders. µ
