Hackers deliver instant Iphone hack

Third party enables third parties at a click
Tuesday, 30 October 2007, 12:22

A WEB SITE HAS pitched up that will automagically hack your Iphone or Ipod touch, just by logging on.

The site installs and launches a jail-breaking routine to get around the software locks which prevent users from installing third-party applications on Idevices.

The software apparently takes advantage of a vulnerability in the way that the Iphone handles Tiff image files, which exposes users to remote code execution.

Helpfully, the software patches the vulnerability, protecting users from future exploits.

The process will not remove the Sim-locks which link the iPhone to AT& T's network, however. That requires a separate piece of software.

The hackers say using the routine won't get their devices bricked by Apple and that the process can easily be reversed through the device's software restore option. µ

nice !

Now, if anyone would like to visit my website, I'm offering to exploit clients that do so. It will patch your computer up all nice and good, I promise.

Only unpatched systems need apply of course.

Anyone see a problem with that ?

Not so clever

I think Apple can argue that if user knew that his/her device will be modified by going to a certain web page user has decided to break the rules of warranty.

Clever

It's clever because since the user only visited a site apple cannot claim he/she 'modified his phone and because of that warranty doesn't apply anymore'.
