CHEAPZILLA, we hear, was hanging around the hallowed halls of Intel's Developers Forum in San Francisco this week, hawking a 64-bit chip called the Athlon FX-53 in a bid to steal some of Chipzilla's thunder.

And whaddya know? There we were relaxing on a Friday evening when suddenly, slipped into our spam-infested in-box we discovered the following pretty pictures.

This retail AMD Athlon FX53-powered system sports a 256Mb Radeon 9800 Pro and two slivers of Kingston KVR DD400-X72-RC3A (ECC REG) memory, all sitting in an Asus SK8N mainboard. Hard disk is a Maxtor 6Y120P0.

Here's what CPU-Z has to say about the system:

-ooh--2400-1mhz-

Running 3DMark 2001 on the system produced a score of 20490.

-congratulations-

3Dmark 2003 produced a score of 6059.

-ooh--and-just-32-bits-

Aquamark3 rated the CPU at 10,159. And produced a combined Tri-score rating of 43,808 as you can see here:

-ooh--better-change-me-pants-

Do you think the move was justified?
