02 doesn't remember P990i problem

Recall? What recall?
Mon Oct 16 2006, 13:23
A GREAT conspiracy theory regarding the P990i from Sony Ericsson (SE) appears to have been scotched. There's no recall of the 990i from the O2 network as one reader would have us believe.

He claimed that after calling O2 enquiring about the SE P990i, customer services let slip that although the handset is on their matrix, it's been flagged for recall on the 23rd October.

The email continued, "Software problems were mentioned although customer services could not attribute software problems directly to be the cause of the recall, nor could they confirm whether the handset firmware is customer upgradeable."

However, an official SE spokesperson told the INQ, "At present there are no plans to recall the Sony Ericsson P990i on the O2 network [because] the product is yet to launch on the O2 network.

As such we find it surprising that a member of customer services would state that a recall is due. The P990i is in testing with O2 and we hope to launch the product imminently."

O2 also denied any recall and claimed that availability of the product is expected to be before November 1st [2006].

Curiously, however, the same reader point out that the 990i is conspicuous in its absence from the 'Coming Soon' page on the O2 web site.

The plot thickens. ยต
