Skype to release Symbian smartphones

Makes dual mode phones desirable
Friday, 4 August 2006, 09:39
A TOTALLY unreliable source claimed that Skype will officially release a version of its software that runs on mobile phones this coming Monday, the 7th of August.

The source didn't even appear to know whether this new offering will merely run on the Windows PC Smartphone OS or if, far more usefully, it will actually be compatible with smartphones that use the Symbian OS.

The Skype client can already be downloaded onto a limited number of cellular-ready Pocket PC devices.

However, a version of Skype for genuine smartphones should create a massive increase in demand for handsets - like the Nokia N80 - which offer dual GSM and WiFi support.

We'll all just have to wait until Monday, won't we? ยต
