ELECTRONICS GIANT Sony is likely to shift more of its workforce offshore, according to research outfit IDC.

Analyst Flint Pulskamp told Reuters that he is predicting Sony is most likely to expand outsourcing to the large companies with which it already does business.

The winners will be Singapore-based Flextronics and Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry, which makes the PS2.

The company does outsource already, but has been reluctant to do so because of social requirements that it should keep its employees for life.

However with Welsh born Howard Stringer as the new CEO, Sony is likely to push this reform through, he said.
