SAMSUNG HAS released a new generation of solid state disks that uses native SATA-IIinterface for fastest possible transfer speed.
These new drives come in 1.8 and 2.5-inch formats, and feature 960 Mbps sequential read and 800 Mbps sequential write speed respectively, corresponding to speeds of 120MB/s and 100MB/s.
Using the latest generation of NAND chips, Samsung almost doubled the speed of its current line-up, which we got a chance to review last weekend (separate article coming right up).
1.8-inch model weighs only 40g, while the power consumption of both is rated at just 0.7W..
This is the very first SSD that not just rivals, but surpasses conventional HDD's in speed, and in the case of 1.8-inch subnotebook market - matches capacity as well. ยต
This is a historic moment. This product marks the beginning of the end of the magnetic era of computing.
Doesn't the Seagate Cheetah 15k.6 deliver around 160MB/s? Still these are getting pretty impressive. Any predictions on when they'll start matching consumer hard drives in price?
YEA. Just Right Speed. I Can HEAR Jingling in background.

sounds great, but how big are they?
Are there any links and is there information about pricing?
And what is the capacity of these super-fast drives?
matches the capacity of 1.8" drives. What are the capacities of these drives!?!?!
Story was edited that capacity flew out of the story, apologise for that.

Capacity is 64GB.

All the best,

Graphics Ed.
As high as 120gb
Samsung SDD 2.5 inch is 64GB in size.

Mat
God dammit! Can't you see we are hungry to know how big they are?
60 gigs i think
The current standard is 120Gb isnt it? I'd hope that they'd be matching that standard and not 80Gb. Though the application of two 80Gb in Raid0 for gamers for desktops - I smell a market - NOW JUST MAKE IT CHEEEEP!
I can confirm that these drives are 64Gb SATA2 using 51nm fab tech. Intended for Dell and other Japanese companies.
Drives use 50% less energy. 128Gb drives will only be developed Mid2008
Capacity of the drives are up to 64 gb i believe.
64GB (64 * 10 ^ 9 B) or 64GiB (64 * 2 ^ 30 B)?
