Shops sell Wii stock on Ebay
RETAILERS are apparently flogging their limited Wii supplies on Ebay because they can command ridiculous prizes in the run up to Christmas.
It's claimed one retail store, Slackers has been caught flogging a Wii on eBay for $400 rather than the retail price of $249.
It is unusual for a retailer to attempt to flog their gear on Ebay. In fact they are contractually obliged by Nintendo to sell them for the retail price. However with this much demand, and so little supply, it seems that some are seeing the Wii as a nice little earner.
Slackers, which is a small 11 store chain in Missouri and Illinois, has admitted that it has been flogging the gear on Ebay.
It said that unlike the bigger stores it does not get an “allotment” from Nintendo and buys from distributors.
It only managed to get 44 units and of them flogged five on eBay. Its total profit on the five was $75. The amount of bad publicity it got was priceless, we would have thought.

Last time I looked on eBay, Wiis were hardly selling at all. Inflated starting and/or buy it now prices, and Christmas shopping over and done with thankyouverymuch... I went through a couple of pages of lots before I found any with any bids at all. I did find a few on offer with minutes to spare, 99p and no reserve, but didn't have the guts to carpetbag.
The only bad press is no press. I suspect even this will improve their sales (in store hopefully ;)
Owwwww Reggi is gonna be even more pi**ed now.

You'd think they'd learn from this after all everyone now thinks the Wii is starting to become a fashion accessory like the iPhone.
