Intel opens Fab 28 in Israel

It's a fabulous affair
Tue Jul 01 2008, 17:07

INTEL STAGED THE opening of its Kiryat Gat fab 28 today, the first high-volume 45 nanometer manufacturing factory outside the US.

The $3.5 billion fab was inaugurated in the presence of Israel’s Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, head of Intel Israel, Maxine Fassberg, Intel's Mobility Group boss, David Perlmutter, manufacturing cheif, Josh Walden, and several other cworthy folk.

Fassberg said the fab fab was “testament to Intel's continued investment in our most strategic asset – the most advanced, environmentally friendly manufacturing network in the world”.

"The magic of 4 nm and our new transistor design allow us to deliver high performance and energy efficient processors to our customers… from the most powerful servers to a variety of mobile devices and everything in between”.

Intel claims that using 300nm wafers lowers the production cost per chip by 40 per cent, while diminishing overall use of resources.

Fab 28 is Intel's seventh 300mm wafer factory and its third factory to produce 45nm chips. It is, however, the firm’s first 45nm fab outside the US. Spanning a whopping 283 dunams (283000 metres squared) in total and with 20,000 square metres of clean room space, fab 28 certainly puts Israel on the fab map in a big way.

Fassberg acknowledged, “this is a huge project on the scale never before seen in this country. We have to prove that the trust invested in us by Intel worldwide was justified.”

Josh Walden apologised that neither Paul Otellini nor Craig Barrett could make it to the fab’s opening, but played a video message from them instead.

In the video, Otellini praised Intel Israel employees for having a reputation for “innovation and discipline” and noted that fab 28 was to be a “key producer” for the firm. Craig Barrett kept it short and sweet saying he was “extremely proud of everything accomplished in Israel”.

alt='ohlmert'

Prime Minister Olmert, who oversaw the fab building process from it’s inception, noted that when he had met Barrett, the Intel chairman had told him that if it had not been for Intel Israel and the R&D centres in Israel, Intel Corp worldwide would not have been able to exist. The PM quoted Barrett as having told him “we would have been finished were it not for the vision and dedication of the Israeli developers”.

Olmert noted that the Israeli government had invested over a billion dollars in Intel Israel, , which was, he said, "a great business deal”. He praised Intel for “being smart and audacious enough to appoint a woman” (Maxine Fassberg) as Intel Israel’s head, and noted that not only did the company employ 6000 people inside Israel, it had also “borrowed” some of Israel’s best and brightest to promote to the company’s most senior positions (Perlmutter).

Olmert also expressed the hope that Israel would see peace in the near future, but noted that despite Israel’s past troubles, never once had an Intel shipment bearing from Israel been delayed due to either terrorism or war.

funny

I worked as security guard in FAB28 for whole year. Good to see it starting to produce chips, after all the delays.

Disgusting...

Is this new fab built on stolen land like the old one?

How many villages had to be demolished this time?

Anti-Israel nonsense

You wanna bash Israel?
There's nothing easier than that.

Our prime minister is currently accused of corruption.
Our ex-president is accused of raping a woman.
Our government is a bad joke.

Use these facts to bash Israel.

But don't say that Israel is an apartheid regime. Don't say Israel slaughters palestinians. We couldn't care less about them. If they would want peace - we'd gladly go for it simply because it would allow us to invest more in infrastructures and education. We've proven it more than once.

Our prime minister, Itzhak Rabin, was assassinated because he wanted peace so badly that he was willing to give up 95% of the territories for it.

8 years ago - we withdrew from Gaza strip. Ripping our own people apart, risking civil war. And what did we get in return? More than 8000 rockets.

The problem is they don't want peace. And they are saying it almost daily. They, and I quote, "want to sink the jews into the sea".

Let me ask you something:
1. Did you ever see Israeli's celebrating on the streets when people are killed?
2. Can you refer me to some sort of historical document proving that palestinians have a historical right to be here?

We support education, prosperity and peace.
Our extensive achievements in Hi-Tech, academy and health care prove that.

Intel is a bright example of what we're capable of.

So please, think about it one minute before boycotting us.

Dear Mr. Zoomee

Are you talking about apartheid?

The Arabs attack Israelis because they are Jews, that's why it all started. Because Jews revived deserted places in the land of Israel (when it wasn't a state) and then got a mandate from the British.

The Israeli government doesn't want to hurt innocent peoplr that's why it is supplying electricity, water and goods to the Palestinians. If it wanted to "slauter" them - they wouldn't exist anymore.
The problem is that their "freedom fighters" use ambulances and neighborhoods to launch rockets and fire on israeli civilians. So what do you think happens? Palestinians get hurt, of course. but it's their choice, they can end it in a second,

No one is slautering them.

What do you say about this "good" Palestinian who was given a job in Israel and used it to kill innocent people?

Why Israel ?

Hm...
I like the sound of apartheid and slaughtered palestinians (what is palestinian ? there is no such nation. there was no such nation 100 years ago) ...
I like you people boycotting Israel ...
Stay in the stone age.
I know that there is almost no British left in Britain.
So this is for you, Terrorist sympathising.
There is no slaughtering of palestinians.
Кockets flying from Gaza, not to Gaza.
But the simple answer to why :
1. It payoff good and quickly.
2. You wont build something in land ruled by bunch of terrorists.

Why Israel: Submarine Project?

Interesting to see this comment assigned to Barrett; “we would have been finished were it not for the vision and dedication of the Israeli developers”

If it wasn't for the Pentium III (Tualatin) derived core designs surviving through various incarnations and "submarine projects", while the Top-Brass and the Intel Roadmaps tried to convince the world that we needed Itanic for 64-Bit computing, they could well have been seriously weakened. But I doubt they would have been finished.
But it isn't the only example of Intel backing a dodo, or recovering for the mistake.
Clearly Intel Isreal has some very Tech-Savvy management who can keep things rolling along under the radar of the Top-Brass.

"Jews own it all baby!" ... Posted by : Family Guy, 01 July 2008

Correction. They think that they own it all, which is a popular misconception/perception that they like to push and may even believe.

" never once had an Intel shipment bearing from Israel been delayed due to either terrorism or war." ..... takes on another complexion/complexity if it is part and parcel of the processor architecture/CPU roadmap.

Why Israel?

Why Israel?
Perhaps because Israelis are serious, hard working people and not a bunch of drunk fat arsed lard eaters.
Perhaps because Israel has got twice the number of engineers per capita compared to Germany (which has the highest percentage in Europe).

Angry with Intel? go waste some oil and donate money to the Bin Laden family and your friendly Iranian and Saudi limb and head choppers.

why israel? because of Centrino, Core...

basically, after abandoning the pentium 3 for the PR friendly netburst architecture.
Intel was loosing ground FAST to AMD. the magnificent pentium 3 rehash called Tualatin (made in israel) had to be scrapped since it was so much better than the "new" and expensive pentium 4.
The guys in Haifa returned to the drawing board and made the Centrino chipset+merom/dothan/yonah (based in part on the tualatin).
Centrino, of course, is the only reason Intel managed to stay in the game while getting a beating from the A64 on the desktop and server front.
we ALL know how the Core MA (again, developed in israel) caught AMD unguarded and still rules intel's bottom line - saving them from the performance ceilinged P4 desktop, the old P4 Xeon, and the ill-fated Itanium.

NOW do you understand why they chose Israel?

Real answer to: Why Israel?

How about, because:

1. Israel has highly skilled R&D and technical staff, particularly in the relevant areas.
2. The above was also true when Intel's presence in Israel started in the 1970s.
3. Salaries are cheaper than in the US.
4. Helpful government.
5. It's proven to work well so far.

Answer to : Why Israel?

It is all in the family!

To answer the question why did intel pick israel.
Well:
1- The founder of Intel is jewish.
2- Israel is a jewish state.
3- A jew must support his fellow jews and bring them up.
4- Go Figure!

This is not only intel. If you have noticed more closely any major company specially in the US is run by jews and the 2nd headquarter is always in Israel! Why do you think G. W. Bush went to the Knesset? Same for John McCain, and in few months Barak Obama will be there.

Jews own it all baby!

Apartheid regime??

My dear friends,
An apartheid regime is one that sets apart two races/parts of its own country.
Israel doesn’t do that. Whatever war it has with the Palestinians it’s a war with an autonomous regime. Like any other war in the world.
Besides that, if Israel wanted to slaughter Palestinians they would ran out of Palestinians quite fast.
All Palestinians and Israelis want to do is eat shishkebab and take a nap under a tree for siesta.
So lay off the name calling and stop guzzling gasoline, that’s the source of all wars in the world.
Drive your bicycles to work and you will contribute to world peace.

Thoughts.

Intresting 4 NM quote even if Misprint has good story. HOW SMALL CAN YOU GO? obviously Limbo Question!

Atom has 7 Power Levels in theory, as in practice it solid thing. Think of Old concepts about Clouds(on Earth) way Up There, Turns Out truth is Hug Earth. Low Valences too, Hugie atoms tightly, like orb of color that has densities of color constantly shifting in its own orb, yet Not moving, its energy thick or thin spots channel to next valence + or-. Proton is so close to those low valences you'd never precieve them. Farther out,on earth example: say go 22,000(explodes) miles up, 11, 5, 2, 1, .5, .25 or from 22,000+ miles to 1,000 feet entire valence family+1 when comparing to space around earth think: Size of outer ring keeps it from exploding (usually) as it shifts internally.
In Doped transistor Metal, even small changes don't corrupt valences as NM structure is so small(Lack of excess open space) that what should expand molecule simply passes charge on faster. Its just to tight to leave it structure.
How Small?, about 1/10 of NM for Behemouth Heavy metal atom. So its Possible some truth in Reasearch was Disclosed. Ultie Thought.18.64.13.8(c)(tm)(reg)
I believe to other poster(s), Israel has had BOTH War & Terrorism.

"never once had an Intel shipment bearing from Israel been delayed..."

That as may be, but back in the early 90's when I used to work for a UK-based box-shifter (sorry, VAR) that flogged Intel barebones PCs, we had to re-pack the hulking b*ggers in unmarked boxes because even in the UK, there were enough people upset with the Intel / Israel connection and we had no idea where their eventual destination was. Shame; it was kit to be proud of, seriously, unlike most of the cr*p we sold.
