Tubes Senator investigated

Corrupted connections
Monday, 16 July 2007, 17:15
SENATOR TED "The Internet is made up of tubes" Stevens, who eloquently argued in favour of telecoms companies charging punters twice for their Internet connections is being investigated for corruption.

The Alaskan Senator, who is 83, told the world that the Internet was a series of tubes which would become clogged if net neutrality became enshrined in law.

According to the Anchorage Daily News, federal investigators are now very interested in a bit of home decoration Stevens did, or rather, nearly did.

The plan was to lift his one-story house off its foundations, build a new ground floor and then place the old floor on top of the new floor.

Somehow, oil company Veco was billed for the project through a contractor. The Senator was found to have pulled cash from a special account set up specifically for the construction.

Turns out also that Veco CEO Bill Allen pleaded guilty this month to federal conspiracy and bribery charges for "giving things of value" to local lawmakers.

Stevens has refused to tell anyone about the strange arrangement but the FBI' is investigating.
