Intel Grantsdale won't take off until 2005

But launches imminent, hold onto your hats

CHIPSETS FROM Intel that support PCI Express, wi-fi, DDR-2 and LGA 775 aren't likely to start selling in quantity until next year, Taiwanese wire Digitimes reports today.

And despite apparently buoyant PC projections from IDC, sales of PCs aren't soaring, the same report said.

Intel's Grantsdale and Alderwood chipsets aren't slated to be introduced until Q2, although recent roadmaps seen by the INQ say there's going to be a delay with some flavours because of a bug.

The most recent roadmaps seen earlier this month suggest the launch of the new numbered Prescott Pentium 4 processors will happen in June.

Chipsets include the 915G, the 925X with added PAT - although this is the one that has problems, it appears, and the 915P.

In Q3, Intel is projecting the launch of the 915GB and the 910GL. The 910G uses the Graphics Media Accelerator 900, dual channel DDR2/DDR memory, PCI Express, and ICH6/R with four S-ATA channels.

The chipsets are already priced up, with the 925X costing $50, the 915G $41, and the 915P $37. There are "adders" for ICH6RW, ICH6W and ICH6R of $7, $5 and $3 repectively.

When the 915GV launches, it is projected to cost $37. ยต
