Yahoo! Screws! Up! Again!

Groundhog Day all over again again

IF FREE SOFTWARE is worth every penny, free Yahoo! Groups must be worth even less. Following its triumph earlier this month when an upgrade to its email servers resulted in thousands of mails vanishing into a black hole, the company is trying to make amends by posting more than 50 copies of every message in Yahoo! Groups.

Almost 800 bemused group moderators have posted in the support forum complaining about the latest cockup.

"I placed the entire group on moderation to try to cut down on number of messages to members. We've had over 300 messages in last hour...some up to 50 times," complains one moderator.
"Same here. Messages are coming faster than we can delete them. We are seeing the same ones 10-20 times," fumes another.
"I know Yahoo Groups is free, but the fee seems to be in the coin of aggravation," grumbles a third.

Yahboo's official line is that they're aware of the duplicate message bug that has been affecting its groups and are working to resolve the issue. A side effect of this bug is that some messages are also being delayed before they're delivered several dozen times.

"We have actually pushed two fixes already, but we are aware that some groups are still experiencing the problem and that more needs to be done to fully resolve the issue. There is, however, one silver lining to this bug. It was the result of our latest system updates intended to improve email delivery speeds."

So that's OK then. Hooray. µ
