SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft has been given an exclusive contract to supply Formula One Electronic Control Units at Bridgestone.

The move is part a radical cost-saving package by racing authorities which was announced earlier this year for introduction in 2008. Vole will get the contract until 2010.

Microsoft has not done much in the way of ECU work and is not a big name in the racing industry. We hope it knows what it is doing. The last thing a driver wants when going around a corner at close to the speed of sound is a little window appearing to warning that the computer has to shut down and would he or she like to notify Microsoft.
