Dragon Quest VIII ships four million

Dragons nearly extinct due to over-hunting

JUST KIDDING about the extinction bit. There are still plenty of dragons for the questing.

Square Enix has now shipped off more than four million copies of its latest installment of DQ (no, not Dairy Queen), Dragon Quest VIII.

This figure is world-wide. DQ8 has already enjoyed wild popularity in Japan, where it shipped a solid three million units in its first three days back in November of 2004. So really, the latest million copies have moved rather lethargically.

Shipments got a bit of a boost starting in November of 2005, when DQ8 was released in America. It has since shipped some 430,000 copies across Cowboy Land, pushing it over the four million mark.

The game's success has given the green light to a spin-off, which Square Enix expects to name Dragon Quest: Shounen Yangus no Fushigi na Daibouken, and release in Japan on April 20th. Gameplay might be somewhat Diablo-esque due to the randomized dungeon layouts.

Don't slay anything I wouldn't slay. µ
