Aussie government loonies to allow cops to raid spam victims' homes

The lunatics are in charge of the asylum

THE AUSTRALIAN branch of the Electronic Frontiers organisation has pointed out some rather fundamental flaws with an anti-spam bill the government is creating.

According to a report in The Age, legal beagles for the Australian Commmunications Authority and cops could enter houses and seize computers without a search warrant, if they suspect spam is being generated.

But the really crackers aspect of the bill is that apparently the cops and the inspectors would be allowed to do the same for people that receive spam.

So that's just about everyone then.

In another example of government lunacy, Australian and foreign governments would be exempted from the provisions of the bill. And so would political parties, religious organisations, and charities.

Spam which contain facts would also be exempted, The Age reports, an interesting exemption indeed.

In the UK, our own anti-spam legislation would allow unsolicited messages from commercial organisations to be legal. ยต
