Security expert has identity swiped
A SECURITY EXPERT who claimed for two years that his products could protect users from ID theft, has had his personal data nicked from his website.
Todd Davis famously dared criminals to have a go and at stealing his ID, which he claimed was protected by his fraud-prevention company, LifeLock.
He was so confident that he used his real Social Security number in his company's advertisements.
However customers who fell for his patter are suing him claiming is product does not work.
They argue that his product was so bad that it did not even work for him. One of the lawyers involved in the class-action suit found records of other people applying for or receiving driver's licenses at least 20 times using Davis' Social Security number.
AP hacks got on the blower to Davis who admitted that at least 87 people had used his personal data in crimes.
LifeLock charges $10 a month to warn credit bureaus, even though consumers can do it themselves for free.
Davis said that his products still worked and that there was nothing on his actual credit report which would affect his credit scoring. µ

Be fair guys - his company business model is that you won't get hurt if they try. Plaintiffs will lose this suit - Lifelock does what they claim and protects consumers with a $1 million dollar insurance policy.

No one can stop every possible identity theft, but they CAN protect you from long-lasting damage done by the blighters...
The true crime is that the US Congress is not acting. For decades people in the US have been ripped off because these lazy lawmakers can't move their asses and make it a crime with a minimum prison sentence of a year, or more, to use the social security number for anything but the social security system.

@Really Pissed. The US government has been hacked n shafted no end of times and takes your taxes with the promise of service and protection, what next? Sue the US govt cos if they can't protect themselves, how can they protect you?
