THE HEAD OF HP in Bangalore will be prosecuted after one of the firm’s employees was raped and murdered on her way home.

Som Mittal headed up the Bangalore branch of HP when Pratibha Srikanth Murthy was murdered by a taxi driver taking her home from a night shift in December 2005.

The Times reports that Mittal will be charged with breaking state laws which protect women but only faces a fine of RS1,000 (~$25) if convicted.

The report said some firms, such as Infosys, give women workers pepper sprays, while others including HP offer martial arts training. µ
