Bango launches the Bango Button
Thursday, 15 November 2007, 10:33

BANGO HAS gone back to its shortcode roots and launched the Bango Button as a means of sending content to mobile phones. You simply place the button on your own web pages โ€“ such as your Facebook page.

The system then sends the mobile phone user to a site that time forgot โ€“ wap.com.

A Button is obtained from Bango for free and represents a very simple method of publishing photos for download to a mobile phone. It can also act as an easy way to point to an existing mobile optimised page.

Using the button is much simpler than existing methods which involve sending a long character string โ€“ such as 'jsmith05 pic003' to a typical shortcode such as 87665.

In a sense, Bango is therefore doing itself out of revenue. But actually it's just changed its business model.

Because the Button can be used for commercial as well as private applications, Bango is plotting to sell analytical information regarding how many people have clicked on a particular Button to businesses such as advertising agencies.

Plus people will want to sell their content rather than make it available for free. In which case Bango is ideally placed since it is already an international payment collection service aimed at mobile phones.

Initially Bango expects most people to select the 'Get on My Mobile' button to place on their pages. Eventually, once awareness has been created, most people will then just use the exclamation as the icon for the button.

You can get your Bango button right now for free by clicking here. ยต
