3.40GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition for sale in Japan

In boxes. Not so inexpensive
Sunday, 8 August 2004, 14:34
THE LGA 775 version of Intel's Pentium 4 Extreme Edition at 3.40GHz has started selling in the Akihabara district of Tokyo.

The chip, which uses a 800MHz front side bus, comes with 2MB of level three cache, comes in a boxed version and is a snip at $1,090 (¥119,800).

Intel has plans to introduce a further rev of the Pentium 4 EE at 1066MHz, unless it's changed its mind since it decided not to proceed too fast with further clock speeds.

While the Gallatin core critter was announced a while back, it now appears to have boxed versions available, as you can see at Akiba PC Watch, here.

The whisper inside is that Dell persuaded Intel of the wisdom of releasing Extreme Edition chips. µ
