Intel schedules 9XX price drop for April

Desktop Roadmaps Everything goes pink

ALTHOUGH SOMEWHAT overshadowed by Intel's plans to hold its ViiV bash here in Las Vegas this week, the firm duly release the 930, the 940, the 920 and the 950 at the beginning of the year, dual core processors with 2x2MB of cache and 800MHz system buses.

It is reserving the launch of its 955 Extreme Edition chip until the 15th of January. But on the 23rd of April, Intel will introduce the 3.6GHz 960, pricing it at $640, and causing what it describes as a cascade in prices on the 950, the 940, the 930, and the 920. This is described as more aggressive than usual. The reason for that is that Intel has to shift its stocks before mid year so it can have a party launching its brand new marchitecture.

We can report that the influence of Eric Kim has even extended to the colour coordination on the roadmaps we saw in the Porcupine, Las Vegas. There are now pink blobs all over the place, especially on the notebook roadmaps.
