Microsoft Longhorn beta released

Windows Server out for testing
Thu Apr 26 2007, 08:09
SOFTWARE FIRM Microsoft has released the first public beta of its next-generation Windows Server operating system, codenamed Longhorn.

It is the Vole's first overhaul to the server OS since 2003 and promises to be more secure and easier to manage.

The server will examines employees' computers every time they log onto the company network to see if they have up-to-date antivirus programs. If they don't then they will be quarantined, although how they are supposed to upgrade the latest AV products if they cannot log onto the internet is not explained.

One of the better advantages of Longhorn is that it can be installed in bits. An IT manager can work out exactly what they want a server to do and just install those functions. This will mean fewer programs to keep updated with security patches, and fewer places for hackers to attack.
