Ebay and Google bury the hatchet

Auction outfit resumes advertising

AUCTION OUTFIT eBay has resumed advertising in Google after ending its hissy fit with the search company over a PR party.

EBay pulled ads from Google claiming it was "an experiment" to determine the most effective means of getting customers to visit the shopping site.

However it was more likely to be retaliation for a June 14 PR party that Google had been planning to siphon attention from eBay's annual user celebration in Boston.

eBay was one of Google's biggest customers for its AdWords marketing program and the money was spent on increased advertising on Google rivals.

EBay spokesman Hani Durzy, sticking to the original claim, said the the experiment proved that eBay didn't need to spend as much on Google ads. However he confirmed they were chums again.

However the fact that Google cancelled the offending gala, which was to push its new paysite, might have helped.
