MSI creates a motherboard for Six Flags USA

Computex 007 Heatpipe roller coaster wins Computex award

HEAT DISSIPATION IS a burning issue, fnar, and with Intel joining the ranks of hot chipsets with its X38 chipset, it is evident that Taiwanese engineers have to exercise their knowledge in thermal transport in best possible way.

The main premise of the heatpipe concept is to transfer heat from a hot place to somewhere else, where appropriate cooling elements will cool down the liquid and change it from vapour to liquid again. MSI however, took somewhat odd approach by designing a motherboard that is going to be a base design for upcoming generation of Intel chipsets. Due to excessive cooling demands, P35 Platinum features almost one metre of heatpipes combined with a roller-coaster on a Northbridge chip.

The board is expected on the market fairly soon, just in time for European sweat season. It remains to be seen will Nvidia allow SLI technology on P35 and X38 chipsets, now that the doors of hell have opened and Harpertown/Seaburg come with SLI licence. DAAMIT's own Crossfire, is of course - supported courtesy of once red, now green team.

Company is calling this system Circu-pipe, and we do agree that it reminds us of a circus. We should be getting the board for a test soon, so we'll report how this roller-coaster is performing once that components on a motherboard start sweating. ยต
