A REPORT by market research firm IDC estimated sales will rise by 12.6 per cent this year to hit 257.5 million units.

It's the Asia Pacific region and the "rest of the world" that accounts for that performance. Here IDC means countries that aren't the US, countries in western Europe and Japan.

Double digit growth will continue for the next two years, said IDC, while portable machines will represent over half of shipments during 2007 and 68 per cent of volume in the US and Western Europe in 2011.

US growth will be about five per cent for the next two years with commercial spending fuelling growth. µ
