Earlier this month, 19 customers brought a class action lawsuit against the company in Xiamen's Huli District People's Court accusing Dell of fraud and demanding compensation of twice the value of allegedly misconfigured products, plus legal costs.
The problem was first identified by a consumer who bought a Dell Inspiron 640M laptop which contained a cheaper CPU than the one advertised. He asked for a refund but Dell refused, reportedly saying customers wouldn't notice any difference in performance.
Now Economic Daily News reports the formation of a campaigning web site called 10000 Consumers Suing Dell. Where the 10000 consumers come from isn't immediately obvious as the site seems to be conspicuous by its absence and the total of 60 reported complaints in a week seems pretty small for a country the size of China.
Dell is also berated for promising delivery times of one or two weeks that 'often stretch to more than a month'. Despite apologies, China Tech News reports, 'consumers' outrage seems to not have been calmed ' µ
