World of Warcraft top of the schlocks

Number one online

MTV-OWNED Xfire has released numbers on the hours logged by its users in various online games, producing a top of the pops for online titles.

Xfire, for those not in the know, is a PC utility that allows you to chat to all your friends whilst you're online, whatever game you might be playing.

Unsurprisingly, the top game is World of Warcraft, which currently logs almost 400,000 hours of play amongst Xfire users each day. The number two game, Counter-Strike Source, is way behind at 157,000 hours per day. Call of Duty 2 is at 145,000 but then we see the numbers drop right off, with number four, Battlefield 2, registering just 63,000 hours.

There's some surprising games in there - Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is at number eight, suggesting plenty of anticipation for the upcoming Quake Wars: Enemy Territory sequel. Command & Conquer 3 was only out a couple of weeks ago but has already burst in at number eleven, whilst Diablo 2 is sitting in a retro-tastic eighteen.

The full list is here. What's pretty clear is that WoW is number one and will be for some time yet. The release of Burning Crusade has bumped its popularity, and given that titles two and three have already been out for years, it seems unlikely that anything new is going to bump these old favourites from the top. µ
